Localization Lab is a trusted partner for organizations and companies that want to make their tools, resources, and platforms truly accessible. We specialize in human-centered and community-first localization that brings your content closer to people who need it most.

Whether it is adapting products, services, or content for different audiences, we make sure it resonates–linguistically and culturally–with the people you are trying to reach. 

We also host a global network of volunteers, tech enthusiasts, translators, activists, and language advocates working across more than 220 languages. Since 2012, we have collaborated with mission-driven organizations, nonprofits, and civic tech developers to deliver accurate, relevant, and timely translations that help users access and benefit from their tools. 

Our work has taken many forms: contract-based partnerships with tool teams to localize technologies into specific languages—including indigenous and marginalized languages across the Global South; localization sprints and glossary-building efforts in collaboration with funders, tool developers, and civil society partners; and capacity-building initiatives that coach individuals and organizations to run their own community-led localization efforts.

Localization Lab was founded as an in-house program at the Open Tech Fund, providing localization support to open-source digital freedom tools. In 2019, Localization Lab spun off as its own independent 501(c)(3). Today, we are a global team of translators, researchers, project managers, technologists, and open-source enthusiasts and advocates.
